20 DECEMBER, VIDEOS SHOWN AT COP26 FEATURING HY4HEAT, NOW PUBLISHED

Videos featuring manufacturers and other partners from Hy4Heat and showing some of the hydrogen appliances developed have been published. These videos were shown at the Innovation Zone at COP26 in Glasgow.  

15 NOVEMBER, HY4HEAT WINS PROGRAMME OF THE YEAR AT APM PROJECT MANAGEMENT AWARDS

The Hy4Heat programme management team has been awarded the APM Programme of the Year. The judges viewed the programme as an example of excellent project management - bringing together different organisations to work collaboratively and deliver all the various work packages successfully.

8 - 11 NOVEMBER, HY4HEAT AT INNOVATION ZONE, COP26

Hy4Heat’s hydrogen domestic appliances were showcased in Glasgow’s COP26 Innovation Zone. Thousands of visitors to the exhibition saw the demonstration products and spoke to the production team. Baxi and BEIS also presented the programme at the Hydrogen Transition Summit held in the Zone.

19 OCTOBER 2021, HY4HEAT APPLIANCES SHOWCASED AT GLOBAL INVESTMENT SUMMIT, London

Speakers from BEIS presented the Hy4Heat programme at the Global Investment Summit and a small exhibition showcased some of hydrogen appliances developed. Deputy Director Mark Taylor and Programme Manager John Foyster gave presentations on the programme and its successes.

26 JULY 2021, HYDROGEN ENGINEERS TRAINING FRAMEWORK PUBLISHED

Hydrogen Competency Framework by Energy and Utility Skills has been published. The report is designed to ensure installation and maintenance of hydrogen appliances will be completed safely, to the highest standards, and be carried out by hydrogen competent, Gas Safe Registered engineers.

15 July 2021, Hydrogen Homes open

The UK’s first homes with appliances fuelled entirely by hydrogen have been officially opened. The homes demonstrate the potential of hydrogen energy to help achieve the government’s ambitions to tackle climate change by achieving Net Zero emissions 2050. The two semi-detached homes have been built in a partnership between gas distributors Northern Gas Networks (NGN) and Cadent and the Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), to provide the public with the opportunity to experience a zero-emission gas-fuelled home of the future.

28 June 2021, BEIS ISSUE PIN FOR Continued development of hydrogen standards

BEIS has issued a PIN for research and evidence gathering to support the continued development of standards initiated under Hy4Heat as part of the Hydrogen Heating programme and NZIP (net zero innovation portfolio) hydrogen work.  Register for the engagement event on Tuesday 6 July at  nzip.hydrogen@beis.gov.uk including

  • Name of the company

  • E-mail and role of attendees

9 JUNE 2021, WP7 DOMESTIC HYDROGEN PURGE PROCEDURES PUBLISHED

The aim of the report, written by Steer Energy, was to review the current purge standards for UK domestic installations, in particular IGEM/UP/1B, and to carry out experiments to assess the validity of those standards for use with hydrogen. These activities were carried out in order to understand and recommend safe purge practices for hydrogen in a domestic environment.

24 MAY 2021, HY4HEAT FINALIST IN MCA AWARDS

The Hy4Heat programme has been named as a finalist in the 2021 Management Consultancies Association awards in the Change and Transformation in the Public Sector category for the role the programme has played in shaping the UK’s hydrogen future. The award ceremony will be held on 1 November

10 May 2021, HYDROGEN COLOURANT Report Published

The Hydrogen Colourant report was a study to determine if there is a requirement for adding a colourant to hydrogen to ensure that safe burning and user acceptance is achieved and to investigate the optimum solution if a colourant is required. The recommendation is that adding colourant to a future hydrogen gas network for use within buildings is not necessary if engineering measures are put in place to enable safe appliance operation.

9 March 2021, Programme Manager Heidi Genoni named Hydrogen Woman of the Year 2021 at World Hydrogen Awards

Programme manager, Heidi Genoni, has been named 2021 Hydrogen Woman of the Year - in part for her work bringing a diverse group of companies and organisations together to deliver the Hy4Heat’s work packages and moving UK hydrogen heating technology from a Technology Readiness Levels of 1 - 2 up to 8 - 9 on the scale: from a position of academic knowledge and understanding to one of commercial market-readiness.

16 FEBRUARY 2021, TWO SHOW HOMES WITH HY4HEAT APPLIANCES BEING BUILT IN GATESHEAD

Funded by a BEIS grant (work package 8), two properties in Low Thornley will have Hy4Heat boilers, hobs, cookers and fires and showcase how hydrogen has potential as a greener replacement for natural gas. Members of the public will be able to see how these appliances compare with ones run on natural gas.

22 January 2021, 2020 progress report published

A summary of the activity in 2020 including: standards and certification, safety assessment and appliance and meter development. It has a foreword from Mark Taylor, BEIS Deputy Director for Energy Innovation and an introduction letter from Arup Hy4Heat Director Mark Neller.
